I was born in London and went to Priestmead Infant and Primary school in Kenton. Later I went onto a boarding school in Buckinghamshire called St Christopher's. My last full time education establishment was to be Chandos School. Leaving school I went on to my first job as a telegram boy at Edgware Post office, and college in London part time.
Following my employment as a ticket clerk at Belmont, Harrow and Wealdstone and Bushey and Oxhey stations. I left to join the merchant Navy and trained at Sharpness in Gloucester. My first ship was the Ocean Coast, with my first trip made to Ireland. I made several other trips on other ships and visited many countries, among them the West Indies, America, Egypt, Syria, India, Australia, Japan etc.
Leaving the Merchant navy I joined the RAF and went to Cardington in Bedfordshire and then onto to Hereford. My first overseas posting was to Germany. It was in the RAF that I had my first brush with the Media. I became a DJ story reader and presenter on the Local Radio Station. I wrote all my own scripts. Leaving the RAF I went to work in a number of catering establishments in Sussex I.O.W. and in Bournemouth as a chef /come waiter.
Returning home to live with my parents. I soon found myself a job as a off licence manager before getting a job as a baker’s rounds man. Having recently passed my driving test. I joined the then Belmont players and was in several stage plays.
It was whilst I was delivering bread and cakes in Luton that I met the woman who was to be my wife for 21 years. We married in 1969 and begat two daughters Tanya and Samantha.
I was a freelance sports writer for a number of local papers, primarily for Football and cricket and a qualified Referee who also played soccer and cricket for a number of local teams.
I was manager for a three local soccer teams from the early 70’s to the mid 80’s and ran my own business as a publisher of a local community publication called Essex and Suffolk Herald.
I sold the publication to a competitor and returned to London in 1993 where I spent several years as a sales promotional consultant. During this time I won several holidays abroad and other awards for my sales expertise. Alas I was made redundant.
Before my redundancy pay off had been exhausted I obtained a job as an advertising consultant in Edgware. On September 1st 2003 took up a position as the Editor in Chief of the London Insider Guides also in Edgware left on the 24th of January 2005.
I am still with my current lady friend Roma for over 20 years
I have one Grandson who was 17 this year 2013
Having retired from my last position I took a mini bus course so I could take less advantaged people out on trips. I was also working in Borehamwood in a charity shop. I was active as an estate representative where I lived in Colindale. I trod the boards once more as an actor in the playrole play and won an award as the best supporting actor in London.
I had my first book published David Johns Merger (written in 1993 and edited in 2009) In December in 28 days I started and finished my second novelDexter Barren Newshawk. This was published in September 2010
In February 2010 I moved from my home in Colindale to Borehamwood, where I had in 2009 produced a new magazine called Tried and Trusted for Borehamwood and district. I had hoped to produce another magazine every quarter but the recession curtailed my plans. Not to be beaten I decided to open a web site which was called
www.triedandtrusteduk.com in March 2009.
Harrow Community Transport used my experience as a mini bus driver and throughout the summer of 2010. I took various disadvantaged people to many places including Bournemouth, Brighton Chesington, Theme Park, Kings Langley Canal excursioons etc.
I have appeared in a number of videos and films until the end of 2009 including an appearance in the film now released called THE KID
On the 3rd of October 2010 after over 60 years being associated and a member of Kenton Baptist Church for the last 17 years I have decided to resign my membership and joined Borehamwood Baptist Church In Furzehill Road Borehamwood. It makes sense seeing as I now live less than a 1/2 a mile from this church. I have to think of my carbon footprint, so I will save myself almost 100 miles of travelling by car in a month. When I go shopping down the town I go by bus. That is my small contribution to save the planet. If we all did this, use our cars less, we could all do our bit to lesson our carbon footprint. My second book was written in 2010 called Dexter Barren Newshawk. In 2011 I saw my sitcom script Cross and Star produced by Patience Zero productions based in Elstree Studios. details can be found on this link click here
I now edit the local magazine Tried and Trusted from 8 pages in 2011 we now produce a 40 page publication 3 times a year but in 2014 we will publish 4 times a year. click this link to go to the publication web site
